What Is Cluster Buying?

Cluster buying occurs when multiple corporate insiders — executives, directors, or major shareholders — purchase shares of the same company within a short time window. This pattern is one of the strongest insider trading signals because it represents independent conviction from people with deep knowledge of the company.

A single insider buying could mean many things, but when three or more insiders buy within 30 days, it often signals that people closest to the business see the stock as undervalued. Academic research has shown that cluster buys tend to outperform single-insider purchases over the following 12 months.
