About InsiderAction.io

What We Do

InsiderAction.io tracks insider trading activity from SEC Form 4 filings in real-time. We provide investors with actionable insights into when corporate insiders - executives, directors, and major shareholders - buy or sell shares of their own companies.

Beyond individual transactions, we aggregate insider activity across all 11 GICS sectors and 74 industries, helping you identify where insiders are collectively putting their money. When executives across an entire sector start buying, it can signal industry-wide optimism that individual stock analysis might miss.

Our Data

All data on InsiderAction.io comes directly from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) EDGAR database. Form 4 filings are required by law whenever company insiders trade shares, and must be filed within two business days of the transaction.

We process these filings automatically to present the data in a clear, searchable format that helps you identify meaningful insider activity.

Why Insider Trading Data Matters

Corporate insiders have unique knowledge about their companies. While they cannot trade on material non-public information, their buying and selling patterns can provide valuable signals about their confidence in the company's future.

  • Insider buying is often seen as a bullish signal - insiders put their own money at risk
  • Cluster buying (multiple insiders buying around the same time) can be particularly significant
  • Insider selling is harder to interpret - insiders sell for many reasons beyond bearish outlook

  • Individual insider transaction history and portfolio tracking
  • Search by ticker symbol or company name

Our Methodology

We collect Form 4 filings directly from the SEC EDGAR database throughout the trading day. Each filing is parsed to extract transaction details, including the type of transaction, number of shares, price per share, and the insider's relationship to the company.

We enrich this data by adding GICS sector and industry classifications, calculating transaction values, and tracking each insider's cumulative position over time. Our cluster detection algorithm identifies when multiple insiders at the same company make open market purchases within a 30-day window.

Sector & Industry Analysis

One of our most powerful features is the ability to view insider trading activity aggregated by sector and industry. We categorize every company using the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS), the same system used by major index providers and institutional investors.

Our Sectors page shows a heatmap of insider buying and selling across all 11 GICS sectors. At a glance, you can see which sectors are experiencing net insider buying (bullish) versus net selling. This bird's-eye view helps you identify macro trends that might not be obvious when looking at individual stocks.

Drill down into any sector to see activity broken down by industry. For example, within Health Care, you can compare insider sentiment in Biotechnology versus Pharmaceuticals versus Health Care Equipment. Each industry page shows:

  • Aggregate buy vs. sell volume over the past 30 days
  • Monthly transaction charts showing buying and selling trends
  • Top insider purchases ranked by dollar value
  • List of all recent transactions with direct links to company pages

When you see heavy insider buying concentrated in a specific industry, it often signals that executives across multiple companies share a positive outlook - whether due to improving fundamentals, favorable regulation, or undervaluation relative to peers.

Industry Buying Streaks

Our Industry Streaks feature identifies industries with consecutive months of net insider buying. When executives across multiple companies in the same industry are collectively buying more than selling, month after month, it often signals sustained confidence in that industry's prospects.

A buying streak requires at least three consecutive months of positive net buying value aggregated across all companies in an industry. We highlight particularly strong streaks (6+ months) and track both active streaks that are still ongoing and notable historical streaks.

While individual insider purchases can be noisy (affected by personal financial needs, tax planning, etc.), industry-level aggregation over multiple months filters out this noise to reveal cleaner signals about collective insider sentiment. Streaks can serve as an early warning system for sectors where insider confidence is building before it becomes obvious to the broader market.

Why We Built This

The SEC EDGAR database contains valuable insider trading data, but navigating it is cumbersome and time-consuming. We built InsiderAction.io to make this data accessible, searchable, and actionable for individual investors.

Our goal is to democratize access to insider trading information that was previously difficult to obtain without expensive financial terminals. We believe that tracking what corporate insiders do with their own money is one of the most valuable signals available to investors.

What Makes Us Different

Most insider trading tools focus only on individual stocks. We go further by aggregating data across sectors and industries, giving you a macro view of where insiders are collectively bullish or bearish.

  • Sector and industry aggregation with visual heatmaps and trend charts
  • Industry buying streaks that track sustained momentum over multiple months
  • Identify industry-wide insider bullishness before it shows up in price
  • Automatic cluster buying detection across companies
  • Free access to institutional-grade insider trading data
  • Clean, fast interface designed for serious research
